The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the month-end close process, account reconciliations, financial analysis, payroll accounting, and internal controls. This position partners closely with management and operational leaders to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and actionable while supporting initiatives that improve efficiency and scalability across the accounting function
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Financial Reporting & Close
- Lead month-end close activities for assigned business areas.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Ensure transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Assist in preparing timely and accurate financial statements
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
- Analysis & Business Support
- Perform monthly variance analysis and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Partner with department leaders to improve financial understanding and decision-making.
- Provide reporting and insights that support profitability and operational performance.
Payroll & Compliance
- Support payroll processing, reconciliations, commissions, and incentive accounting.
- Ensure payroll-related transactions are accurately reflected in the general ledger.
- Maintain compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and payroll requirements.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests and year-end reporting.
- Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and workflows.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
- Support the use of technology and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Accounting, Operations, Human Resources, and leadership teams.
- Provide financial guidance to non-financial stakeholders.
- Support special projects and additional responsibilities as needed
Safety
- Report all recognized unsafe conditions or acts to Management.
- Wear proper PPE when necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend training sessions as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within the first 6–12 months, you will:
- Consistently meet month-end close deadlines.
- Maintain accurate and timely reconciliations.
- Demonstrate ownership of payroll accounting and related controls.
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis and business insights.
- Improve processes through automation, standardization, or workflow enhancements.
- Build strong partnerships across the organization.
Requirements
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) with emphasis in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
- CPA certification or active CPA candidate preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Payroll accounting experience.
- Experience in equipment rental, manufacturing, construction, industrial, distribution, or related industries.
- Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise or similar ERP systems.
- Experience supporting automation, process improvement, and reporting initiatives.
- Familiarity with BI, analytics, or AI-enabled business tools.
