Job Description

The Sales Representative is responsible for selling and marketing Academy products in assigned markets. Key responsibilities include direct sales to new and existing accounts, developing promotions to increase sales and cross-selling all Academy products to meet or exceed revenue goals. This position reports to the Associate Director of Travel Industry Sales.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with client accounts in assigned territory including but not limited to hotel sales personnel, concierges, local tour operators and tourism companies, group organizers, and corporate clients.
  • Meet or exceed established goals including revenue, per cap and attendance in assigned business channels, predominantly in the Bay Area market.
  • Actively prospecting and developing new business: Including cold calls, weekly outside sales calls, attending trade-shows, networking, site visits, and industry events. Prospect, develop and manage new and existing groups for the Senior Dining Program.
  • Ensure timely follow-up with clients.
  • Develop strong connections with customers, partners, and stakeholders regarding industry trends and understand trends and issues that will impact the market. All while managing the sales process from initial contact, contracting, close, and maintaining relationships with clients.
  • Prepare, implement and execute annual sales plan and oversee revenue and expense budgets for assigned markets.
  • Develop and execute promotions and client communication strategies, including newsletters and eMarketing campaigns to optimize revenue for all ticketed products.
  • Maintain current and accurate all client information and record all sales activity in SalesForce for all accounts.
  • Prepare, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Academy departments to facilitate the needs of the clients and overall business within the sales area.
  • Follow all Academy safety regulations. Other duties as assigned.

The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred. 

A qualified candidate will have a combination of the following experience and/or equivalent education:

  • Critical to possess experience directly related to the travel & tourism industry.
  • Minimum 4 years of direct sales experience working in the travel industry.
  • Bay Area, domestic, and weekend travel required.


  • Proven track record to achieve revenue goals for a cultural facility, hotel, museum, or associated venue within a travel industry sales area of responsibility.
  • Strong communication skills across multiple disciplines, cultures, and geographies; demonstrate communication skills including written, verbal, presentation.
  • Proficient in Customer Relationship Management and ticketing systems, knowledge of Salesforce and Tessitura a plus. Skilled in MS Office and Google Drive, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be flexible with working evenings and weekends, as appropriate for the business.
  • Must have valid US driver’s license and ability to drive to tradeshows, sales calls, meetings, and events.
  • Ability to interact with a high degree of professionalism at all levels with business partners.
  • Naturally self-disciplined, tenacious, practical and results orientated.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality of all related Academy records.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals. Bilingual (spoken and/or written) in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other non-English language preferred but not necessary.
