Primary Job Function:

Working as part of the Human Resources shared support team at Petersburg, the Human Resources Generalist will serve as a business partner to the Vice President of Operations and Engineering for Seals and Forming and the local business leadership team, and will be dedicated to the Petersburg Seals and Forming workforce.  The incumbent will be a key player in helping ensure positive employee relations and successful execution of defined HR programs and processes, to include communications, performance management, employee development, compensation and rewards and talent acquisition.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides HR support to plant population of approx. 60-80 employees, leveraging shared support specialists in areas of payroll, benefits and EH&S.
  • Leads and executes all plant HR initiatives including employee relations, performance management, HR compliance, organizational development and training.
  • Ensures effective employee relations in matters of supervision, discipline, performance management, motivation, and promoting a non-union environment based on the foundation of Value of the Person.
  • Proactively identifies and addresses employee issues and concerns, maintaining positive employee relations and supporting employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Responds to employee questions and complaints regarding a wide variety of issues, including responsibility for comprehensive investigations when appropriate (FMLA, work schedules, transfers, promotions, benefits, safety, unfair treatment, performance, personal issues, pay, company policies).
  • Coordinates the hiring of new employees, oversees smooth and effective onboarding, and ensures employment decisions follow company policy and employment laws
  • Advises Managers and Supervisors to ensure consistent application of corrective action
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment legislation and regulations by remaining current with legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Champions internal communications; communicate changes in HR related policies and benefit plans

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with preference for human resources, industrial relations or business administration.  Human Resources certification preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as an HR generalist or employee relations specialist in a manufacturing environment.

Prospective candidates will be evaluated on functional knowledge and competencies as well as broader, professional competencies.  Areas of required functional knowledge, skills and abilities include effective administration of policies and programs related to employment law, employee health and safety, staffing, compensation, benefits, and worker’s compensation; ability to assess talent and improve talent assessment capabilities within an organization; ability to exercise independent judgment, handle highly confidential, sensitive information, and flexing to changing needs and situations; ability to relate to, influence, and coach employees and supervisors; and ability to support and guide organizational change management.
