Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF), develops and delivers children’s and family literacy programs that help prepare young children for reading and motivate older children to read regularly. RIF is the oldest and largest children and family literacy organization in the United States and focuses on the nation’s most at-risk children, from infancy to age 8. RIF operates through a national, grassroots network of more than 435,000 community volunteers in 23,000 sites: in schools, libraries, community centers, child-care centers, hospitals, migrant worker camps, Head Start and Even Start programs, homeless shelters, and detention centers – literally anywhere at-risk children are located. Annually, RIF provides more than 16 million new, free books and other essential literacy resources to over 4.5 million children and their families.
