Maryville College is a private, liberal arts institution located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee. The College is a nationally ranked institution of higher learning that successfully joins the liberal arts and professional preparation in partnership with others. Founded in 1819, Maryville is the 12th oldest college in the South. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA, the College was the first in the state to graduate a woman and also the first to admit African-Americans and led the late 19th Century effort to sustain racial integration in higher education in Tennessee.
