UNM Foundation, Inc.

In order to develop private financial support for the University of New Mexico, the University's Board of Regents established the UNM Foundation Inc. in 1979.?? The Foundation began operations in the spring of 1980 for the purpose of raising, investing and managing private gifts on behalf of UNM.

In 2008, the UNM Board of Regents and the UNM Foundation Board of Trustees approved separating the Foundation???s operations from within the University.?? This new structure gives the Foundation more organizational strength, cohesion, and stability.?? Through this structure, the Foundation is interdependent of the University with its operational budget provided by the University and the Board of Regents but maintaining its non-profit 501(c)(3) status.

The Foundation has its own Board of Trustees, which is comprised of 25 members from public, private and academic arenas.?? Additionally, the Foundation employs approximately 80 staff, has its own operating policies and systems, and has financial accountability for gifts made to the University.
