PSA Behavioral Health

PSA has approximately 135 staff and 6 volunteer board members who are committed to helping adults and their families with their mental health needs.  PSA Behavioral Health Agency is a non-profit, tax-exempt entity.

PSA is most of all an agency of people.  As a new employee joins us, you will initially experience an array of policies and procedures that are critically important to learn and apply.  These guidelines are here to protect our clients, the employee, and the agency from harm, to explain the rights of employees, and to insure the most effective and efficient treatment possible.  The best policies and procedures in the world, however, mean nothing without willing and dedicated people committed to doing the best possible job for our clients and the agency.  Regardless of where the employee will be working or what role he/she will be fulfilling in our agency, our employees are an important part of what we do.

PSA is in pursuit of excellence.  This assumes a commitment to change in an ongoing process of learning and modifying what we do in order that we may do it better and faster.  We encourage the employee to anticipate, welcome, support and suggest change that is aimed at improving treatment, conserving resources, and improving our lives in the work place.

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) 

Beginning October of 2009 PSA became accredited by CARF. The mission of CARF is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served.

 Philosophy of Treatment

 PSA Behavioral Health Agency practices the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation in all of its programs. Of utmost importance is the acknowledgement of mutual respect between human beings, the dignity of failure and the importance of supporting each human being who is our client to define what recovery is for them.

Our focus in service provision is to promote wellness, foster collaborative relationships, and empower individuals to utilize natural supports to recover which will reduce client risk and improve outcomes.

The agency implements national Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards issued by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) as a means to correct inequities that currently in the provision health services and to make these services more responsive to the individual needs of clients/consumers. 

Ethical Practice Oriented Research

 It is the philosophy of PSA to promote the desirability and importance of clinically useful research.  We believe that competent therapists and other professionals are engaged in such research on an informal basis throughout their practice.

 We further believe that, as an agency dedicated to providing ethically sound and demonstrably effective treatment to the populations we serve, we are obligated to share our experiences and our expertise with the professional community at large.

 We therefore strongly support the development, implementation and sharing of treatment modalities, outcomes and treatment/program design by means of structured, ethically and methodologically sound research.

 PSA will endeavor to assist any of its employees who have an interest in practice oriented research, either with N=1 research designs or larger projects.  We will also endeavor to provide editorial, methodological, or other technical assistance, authorship assistance, etc.
