Overview
The Senior Donor Engagement Officer provides strategic direction and front-line stewardship to a portfolio of donor-advised fundholders. This position substantially contributes to the Foundation’s philanthropic vision, mission, and values – and thus to the overall quality of life in our community.
Responsibilities
Donor Portfolio Management
Proactively manage portfolio of approximately 100-125+ DAFs, including corporate and committee-advised funds
Develop long-term relationships through personal interaction with assigned fundholders, striving to connect fundholders with the Foundation Impact Areas, as well as causes they care about
Provide excellent service, communication, and Foundation resources, to donor-advised fundholders (DAFs), ensuring they are achieving their philanthropic objectives through targeted grantmaking and fund management.
Plan and implement a strategy to ensure assigned donors are given appropriate attention each year.
Develop and implement an annual giving program as part of operational planning and budgeting for the Fund for the Triangle
Facilitate face-to-face and virtual visits for stewardship and solicitation efforts.
Consistently highlight the Foundation’s focus areas as funding opportunities and ensure that other staff-suggested grants to nonprofit partners are shared with fundholders.
Educate fundholders on philanthropic trends, best practices, and Triangle community needs through partnership with Community Engagement
Maintain current fundholder data, record donor engagement touchpoints in CSuite, the Foundation’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
Use existing CRM and communication systems and processes to report on donor activity.
Implements proficient and comprehensive philanthropic and donor stewardship best practices.
Participates and engages with the Donor Engagement Team within the Philanthropic Engagement Department
Attends bi-weekly Philanthropic Engagement meetings to contribute to larger Philanthropic Engagement strategies and objectives with a willingness to share ideas, skills, and information with peers to maximize department effectiveness.
Works closely with other departments to leverage events, projects, and activities to enhance donor engagement and stewardship.
Is a thought-partner with the Director of Donor Engagement to accomplish department objectives, strategies, and key performance indicators.
Participates in assigned special projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

Minimum of five years of experience working within fundraising departments at non-profit organizations.

40% Digital Design Direction
• Provide overall creative leadership and digital design strategy for the college through the translation of the brand’s guidelines for digital platforms. • Assess the college’s online brand identity and develop strategic and creative digital concepts and materials to advance the college’s strategic goals. • Develop, implement, and evaluate short-and-long-term goals, objectives, and projects of digital visual marketing and communications in the college. • Partner with Senior Director of Marketing (SDM), Assistant Director of Marketing (ADM), Digital Communications Specialist (DCS), and Web Development Manager (WDM) to guide digital design needs and provide digital design assets to projects initiated by the marketing and communications team in the production of digital projects.

Unit/Vision/Mission/Purpose/Info
Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine was formally established as a four-year, degree-granting program in 1910. Today, the college includes three biomedical science departments --Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation, and Pharmacology and Toxicology; two clinical departments -- Large Animal Clinical Sciences and Small Animal Clinical Sciences; two service units -- the Veterinary Medical Center and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory; and several research centers. • Develop and implement targeted strategies to maximize the involvement of key volunteers and faculty members in the College of Veterinary Medicine development effort. Schedule joint prospect visits with members of the college leadership, faculty or other Development colleagues, when appropriate.
• Serve as a liaison officer between the Unit and donors and potential donors to ensure that such information and service as may be desired is provided to the full extent permitted by University policy, rules and regulations.
• Serve as a consultant to donors on the tax advantage of various types of gifts.
• Plan and host campus visits for donors or potential donors or their representatives.
• Prepare annual personal fundraising goals and analyze/report goal accomplishment. Assist in planning and implementing special purpose appeals as necessary.

• Assist with the coordination of and participation in college alum and donor engagement, prospecting, recognition and stewardship events, as appropriate.
• Utilize constituent relations management programs to coordinate with other development colleagues, record contact activities, update donor information, record strategic moves management steps and gift documentation as appropriate.
• Build working relationships with internal constituents to enhance information exchange between units within the College of Veterinary Medicine, including advising faculty and administrators of appropriate fund-raising strategies.

The Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation expands the role of design in undergraduate and masters level engineering education at the University of California, Berkeley. 60% Institute Management and Academic Administration

10% Fundraising & Development
• Actively works to identify and develop funding opportunities for the Institute - including grants, revenue generating programs, and sponsored programs. • Identifies gift opportunities, and proactively collaborates with the College of • Engineering Development Office and University Relations to share these opportunities with potential donors. • Works with the College of Engineering to liaise and cultivate JIDI Industry Advisory Board. With the Senior Director of External Relations, supports the design and organization of the Industrial Advisory Board meetings. • May provide guidance to faculty leadership regarding funding, new venture development and other resource acquisitions.
10% Partnerships & External Relations
• In collaboration with the Senior Director of External Affairs, explores opportunities to engage government sponsors, industry partners, and international organizations. • Cultivates and builds collaborations, partnerships, and relationships with these entities. • Proactively collaborates with the College of Engineering's Industry Relations and International Office (GLOBE) to identify and develop potential partnerships and collaborations. • Tracks relevant trends in education and industry, and cultivates relationships with peer institutions. Represents JIDI at professional conferences. • Represents the Jacobs Institute in meetings and discussions across campus and with external partners and the general public. • Interfaces with press and other media, as appropriate, to promote the Institute, and provides public relations support.

Made possible by a $20-million commitment from the Paul and Stacy Jacobs Foundation, Berkeley Engineering launched the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation at the Clinton Global Initiative in June 2013. The Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation expands the role of design in undergraduate and masters level engineering education at the University of California, Berkeley. As the Institute works to further its mission of educating leading innovators at the intersection of design and technology, it provides students with hands-on experiences and opportunities to work in interdisciplinary teams to address real societal issues. Students are challenged to approach the entire cycle of design, from identifying user needs to rapid prototyping to commercialization and manufacturing, from an integrated vantage point. We accomplish these goals through a suite of offerings that include curricular, co-curricular and public programs.
Core programs within the Jacobs Institute include:
• the Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation, an undergraduate certificate offered in partnership with the Haas School of Business, College of Letters & Science, and College of Environmental Design; • a curriculum of 6-8 design-focused courses offered fall, spring and summer, for which the Institute recruits lecturers and faculty; • a maker space staffed by professional and student workers which is accessed by 1200+ students each semester; • mentorship and co-curricular programming for students, such as the Innovation Catalyst grants program, and career/professional development programs; • supporting 15+ design and innovation courses from campus departments, 35+ clubs and 5+ DeCals each semester by offering access to high-quality teaching, meeting and event space; • public events and speaker series; • a professional Master of Design degree, offered in partnership with the College of Environmental Design and housed within the Jacobs Institute; and • partnerships with companies and international universities.
The Jacobs Institute is housed in Jacobs Hall, a 24,000 square foot building equipped with design studios and equipment rooms featuring the latest in digital fabrication technologies.
• The Executive Director reports to the Faculty Director of the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation (JIDI) and is responsible for all operations of the Institute, including the following: Oversight and assessment of a dynamic portfolio of educational programs, activities, services, and events and ensuring the continued success and growth of all offerings within the Institute. • Management and oversight of the Institute's financial and resource allocations, including the appropriate staffing, budget planning, and administrative infrastructure. Responsibilities
60% Institute Management and Academic Administration
• Directs and administers the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation (JIDI) with complete administrative and programmatic responsibility. • Supports the JIDI faculty leadership and Executive Committee in defining, developing and implementing the Institute's vision, mission and agenda. • Oversees the development of programs and operations that advance the strategic mission and vision of JIDI, working closely with faculty leadership and in coordination with other campus units. • In collaboration with the Jacobs Faculty Director and Executive Committee, ensures the operational and educational effectiveness of the JIDI programs, facilities and student services, including: the Master of Design degree program, DES INV undergraduate course offerings, co-curricular and career programming, technical labs and makerspaces, student showcases, and public events. • Leads the JIDI staff, with direct reports in technical, operational and administrative roles. • Recruits lecturers and implements policies related to academic hires, student employees and course budget allocations. Oversees academic personnel hiring for JIDI undergraduate and graduate courses (DES INV courses, etc.) and non-credit workshops. • Directs space usage of Jacobs Hall, including technical facilities, working closely with Jacobs Technical Lab Director (who serves as building manager) and in collaboration with faculty directors and leadership, and COE facilities team. Develops and implements policies to align space usage with the mission and priorities of the institute. • Assesses program effectiveness, and recommends changes to program content, policies and procedures accordingly. Oversees data collection, reporting, and metrics for key institute activities. • Proactively engages with departments in College of Engineering and across campus tofoster interdisciplinary collaboration. • Advises faculty leadership on issues (operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning) that impact the achievement of the Institute's objectives.
20% Financial and Resource Management
• Plans, directs, and controls Jacobs Institute budget, personnel, facilities and other resources. • Partners with the Jacobs staff directors (including Senior Director of External Affairs, Director of Academic Affairs, and the Technical Lab Director) on the development of new programs; providing support on staffing, financial models and budgets. • Works collaboratively with the College of Engineering on all matters related to academic and staff personnel, development activities, and financial/business administration.
10% Fundraising & Development
• Actively works to identify and develop funding opportunities for the Institute - including grants, revenue generating programs, and sponsored programs. • Identifies gift opportunities, and proactively collaborates with the College of • Engineering Development Office and University Relations to share these opportunities with potential donors. • Works with the College of Engineering to liaise and cultivate JIDI Industry Advisory Board. With the Senior Director of External Relations, supports the design and organization of the Industrial Advisory Board meetings. • May provide guidance to faculty leadership regarding funding, new venture development and other resource acquisitions.
10% Partnerships & External Relations
• In collaboration with the Senior Director of External Affairs, explores opportunities to engage government sponsors, industry partners, and international organizations. • Cultivates and builds collaborations, partnerships, and relationships with these entities. • Proactively collaborates with the College of Engineering's Industry Relations and International Office (GLOBE) to identify and develop potential partnerships and collaborations. • Tracks relevant trends in education and industry, and cultivates relationships with peer institutions. Represents JIDI at professional conferences. • Represents the Jacobs Institute in meetings and discussions across campus and with external partners and the general public. • Interfaces with press and other media, as appropriate, to promote the Institute, and provides public relations support.

• Assess outcomes of initiatives and make determinations on continuation or changes in strategy in consultation with the Senior Director of Advancement.
• Evaluates event results and outcomes and implements improvements in support of the organizational mission.
• Provides analysis, data, and reporting to assess the effectiveness of current programs and services and to inform decisions and make recommendations to executive management.
• Creates and implements new strategies to improve and measure the success of programs and events.
• Evaluates events and programs and conducts analysis for cost-saving measures.
10% Supervision
• Supervises a team of student employees.
• Provides lead work to classified and professional staff within college units as needed in support of event management.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, hospitality management or closely related field with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in event management.
• Demonstrated success in event design.
• Demonstrated project management skills, including managing multiple, competing assignments simultaneously and working under pressure.
• Experience setting priorities, developing work plans, monitoring progress, and tracking
• details/data/information, and ability to manage time effectively, both independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent, verbal and written communications skills, organization skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to implement creative problem solving and make independent decisions with little to no oversight.
• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
• Proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and Adobe Acrobat.

• Experience with overseeing and executing large-scale events for alumni, volunteers, students, industry partners, and/or other community constituents.
• Previous experience in leading programming that resulted in meaningful and measurable engagement.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
• Light to moderate lifting may be required.
• Regular attendance required. Some weekend and evening work required.
• Travel is required, including driving to events.
