Description

The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design invites applications for the full-time position in the history and theory of architecture. Anticipated start date is as early as July 1, 2019. As a position with tenure and tenure-track, we desire candidates with a substantial body of scholarship and extensive teaching experience with the capacity to develop advanced pedagogy and assume a leadership role in shaping critical studies curricula across academic programs. The successful candidate will participate in doctoral recruitment, teaching and advising, offer core courses in our graduate and post professional degree programs, and conduct significant research. The department values a productive relationship between history, theory, and design, and therefore seeks a candidate interested in engaging with the culture of design. We are seeking candidates whose work reflects at least one of the following areas of specialization:

• Expanded historical discourses that consider diverse cultural perspectives or underrepresented geographies to bring new insights into design.

• Extended disciplinary agendas and impacts for the field of architecture.

• Expanded territories of urban, environmental, and/or media studies.

UCLA Architecture and Urban Design has earned an international reputation, so preference will be given to candidates whose work exhibits the same reach. We welcome candidates whose demonstrated experience in teaching, research, and community service has prepared them to contribute to a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. All candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The workload is determined at the discretion of the Department Chair and requires a service commitment to the Department and the University as requested by the Chair.

Early applications are encouraged. To ensure full consideration, please submit applications by March 15, 2019, however applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
