Job Description

The Metrics & Analytics Specialist ('Business Intelligence Specialist 3' Grade 23) works hands on and independently with all areas of the department, as well as clients throughout UC Davis, to provide and analyze bottom-line business and communication metrics to develop forecasts, recommendations and strategic tactical plans.

  • Develops, implements, maintains, monitors and reports communications and marketing metrics for the Department of Public Affairs and Marketing to both internal and external audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Researches, develops and analyzes internal and external data; reports findings; evaluates and develops recommendations for achieving brand and messaging goals through a variety of communications channels to a variety of audiences; and provides research, training and project coordination to investigate solutions.
  • Provides strategic business and communications recommendations and plans based on insights gained by research and analysis.
  • Provides research and analytics services and training as needed, optimizes the performance of business and communications intelligence tools, and creates dashboards.
  • Advanced skills and experience in a communications or business environment researching and analyzing data from a wide variety of sources using knowledge and application of SQL and data mining techniques.
  • Extensive experience analyzing and interpreting metrics for Web and social media.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with social media platforms/tools and an understanding of audience demographics and how they use these tools (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+, Flickr, Reddit, Snapchat, Pinterest, Periscope, blogs, wikis, RSS, social bookmarking, etc.).
  • Ability to see and understand whole systems and how elements within systems relate.
  • Work cooperatively with others to use appropriate systems strengths, knowledge and collaboration to use data to improve performance and resolve business/communication challenges.
  • Advanced experience and ability to organize, combine, prioritize and manipulate data from disparate sources into accurate, cohesive and meaningful dashboards, reports and plans.
  • Advanced/expert knowledge of Microsoft tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) for data retrieval, manipulation and reporting.
  • Professional experience and skills producing high quality, engaging, and visually interesting reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including data accuracy and editing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of proofreaders' marks and AP style preferred.
  • Ability to edit documents with consideration for grammatical and editorial accuracy, style and format. Ability to adhere to Associated Press (AP), campus and health system style guides.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Quantitative Analysis, Statistics, Mathematics, Marketing, or related field plus extensive experience conducting consumer or trade market research with progressive responsibility or equivalent education/experience highly preferred.
